Welcome to the Mitchell Refractive Surgery & Eye
Center. The philosophy of our practice is to provide you with compassionate
and personal touch eye care.
The Lasik
Difference
LASIK or Laser in-Situ Keratomileusis, offers a number of benefits
over other forms of laser vision correction because it is performed
under a protective layer of corneal tissue.
The Lasik
Procedure
An instrument called a microkeratome is used to create a thin, circular
flap in the cornea. Dr. Mitchell folds the flap back out of the
way, then removes some corneal tissue underneath using an excimer
laser. The laser uses a cool ultraviolet light beam to precisely
remove very tiny bits of tissue from the cornea to reshape it.
Can Lasik Help
You?
In general, the ideal candidate for LASIK is over 18 years of age
and has healthy corneas. Candidates must not have had a significant
increase in their prescription in the last 12 months.
The History
of Lasik
LASIK or Laser Assisted In-Situ Keratomileusis, is the most recent
advance in Laser Vision Correction. LASIK has been performed internationally
for over 10 years and was first performed in the U.S. in 1991 during
clinical trials.
Why is Lasik
so Popular?
Seventy-five million people woke up this morning reaching for their
eyeglasses or squinting to see without their contact lenses. But
more than a million people each year give up this daily struggle
and make the decision to have laser vision correction.
