The Allegretto Wave
After making the corneal flap with the IntraLase laser (link to
interlase page), the eye is reshaped with the ALLEGRETTO
WAVE,
the fastest Excimer laser system in the world, with an average
patient treatment time of less than 30 seconds. Its flying-spot
laser beam is less than 1 mm wide, which allows the surgeon to
finely sculpt the cornea with precise accuracy. Its PerfectPulse
Technology ensures that every laser pulse has ultra stable energy
levels and is placed exactly where it belongs.
Such a high-speed laser must also have an ultra fast eyetracking
system to follow eye movement during the procedure. Using three
independent infrared light sources, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE will automatically
pause the treatment if the eye moves out of range and resume treatment
when the eye is back in position.
Understanding that all eyes are not the same, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE
takes into consideration each patient’s individual corneal
steepness and automatically compensates for laser energy that can
be lost in the periphery of the cornea due to each individual eye’s
natural shape. In doing so, the ALLEGRETTO WAVE specifically addresses
the spherical aberrations (visual distortions) that cause glare
and can influence night vision.
